How to Generate Lorem Ipsum Text

Generate placeholder text in the Lorem Ipsum style for design mockups and testing.

Problem

You need filler text for a design layout or test content that looks like real text without being distracting.

Prerequisites

  • Understanding of paragraphs and sentences
  • Knowledge of Lorem Ipsum format

Steps

  1. 1. Choose the amount of text

Decide whether you need paragraphs, sentences, or words. Specify the count. For layout testing, paragraphs are common; for component testing, a few words may suffice.

    Input
    5 paragraphs
    Output
    amount specified
  2. 2. Generate the text

The generator produces Lorem Ipsum text by combining standard Latin-like words into sentences and paragraphs. The classic opening 'Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet' is often used for the first paragraph. Subsequent text is randomized from a word pool.

    Input
    5 paragraphs
    Output
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur...
  3. 3. Customize if needed

Some generators allow customizing the word pool, sentence length range, or whether to start with the classic opening. For non-Latin testing, use a generator that supports CJK or Arabic filler text to test layout with different character widths.

    Input
custom: start with classic, 3-8 words per sentence
    Output
    customized filler text

Expected result

Natural-looking placeholder text in the specified quantity for design and testing purposes.

Common errors

Text is repetitive
Use a generator with a large word pool and randomization. Avoid generators that repeat the same sentence.
Text does not test edge cases
For layout testing, also test with very long words, short words, and CJK characters to ensure the design handles all cases.

Troubleshooting

  • If the text looks too uniform, increase the sentence length variance.
  • For responsive design testing, generate different amounts for different viewport sizes.

Security limits

  • Lorem Ipsum is placeholder text with no security implications.
