TASK
Convert colors between hex, RGB, HSL, and named formats
Translate a color value between hex (#ff5733), rgb(), hsl(), and CSS named colors for use in different contexts.
- 1
Colors appear in many formats: hex (#ff5733), rgb(255,87,51), hsl(11,100%,60%), named (red). Different tools and contexts prefer different formats. Conversion preserves the exact color while changing the representation.
- 2 Color Converter →
Paste a color in any format. The tool outputs hex, rgb, rgba, hsl, hsla, and the nearest CSS named color.
- 3 Color Picker from Image →
Pick a color visually and get its value in all formats — useful when you do not have a specific input color but want to explore.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does my HSL conversion look different?
- HSL is device-dependent (depends on the display's color space). The conversion is mathematically exact in sRGB, but perceptual differences arise on wide-gamut displays. For critical color work, specify the color space explicitly.
- Can all colors be represented in all formats?
- Within sRGB, yes — hex, rgb, and hsl are equivalent. Colors outside sRGB (P3, Rec.2020) cannot be represented in 8-bit hex. Alpha transparency requires rgba/hsla or 8-digit hex (#rrggbbaa); 6-digit hex has no alpha.
