yescrypt
yescrypt is a memory-hard password hash designed by Solar Designer, improving on scrypt with S-box pre-filling and a hybrid mode.
Purpose
A password hash with tunable memory and CPU parameters, improving performance and flexibility over scrypt; used in OpenBSD.
Mechanism
Pre-fills a large S-box (password-dependent); on top of scrypt's ROMix it adds S-box lookup mixing, supporting continuous parameter tuning from CPU-intensive to memory-intensive.
Use cases
- OpenBSD password hashing
- Linux crypt(3)
- PHC competition submission
