Traitor Tracing
In broadcast encryption systems, traitor tracing lets the content provider trace a pirated decoder back to the source user whose leaked key built it.
Purpose
It deters key leakage in broadcast encryption systems and provides accountability for paid content distribution.
Mechanism
Every user receives a unique key variant, and a pirated decoder must embed some subset of user keys; black-box probing sends crafted ciphertexts and infers from the decoder’s outputs which embedded keys it holds.
Use cases
- Pay-TV anti-piracy
- Digital rights management
- Encrypted content accountability
