RTSP
RTSP (Real-Time Streaming Protocol, RFC 7826) controls media stream playback (PLAY/PAUSE/SETUP), acting like a "network remote control".
Purpose
It controls playback (play/pause/seek) between streaming server and client, while the actual media data travels over RTP.
Mechanism
Requests are HTTP-style: SETUP establishes the session and negotiates transport, PLAY starts delivery, PAUSE halts it, and TEARDOWN ends it. The URL identifies the stream, and media data moves via RTP over UDP/TCP.
Use cases
- IP camera video
- Streaming on demand
- Security surveillance
