TCP Reno
TCP Reno is the classic congestion control algorithm—slow start, congestion avoidance, fast retransmit, and fast recovery—and the basis of most TCP implementations.
Purpose
It delivers the classic TCP congestion control behavior, performs stably on low-to-medium speed networks, and serves as the baseline for congestion control algorithms.
Mechanism
Slow start (exponential) → congestion avoidance (linear) → fast retransmit (3 dup ACKs) → fast recovery (halve cwnd). On a timeout, ssthresh = cwnd/2 and cwnd = 1, returning to slow start.
Use cases
- Classic TCP congestion control
- Congestion control baseline
- Education
