Read-Your-Writes Consistency

Read-your-writes consistency guarantees a user reads the values they themselves have written; a session-level consistency guarantee.

Purpose

To ensure immediate feedback on user actions, avoiding the confusion of writing and then failing to read one own data.

Mechanism

Implemented via sticky sessions (same replica), version stamps (compare against the written version when reading), or read/write quorums (W+R>N). Crossing nodes requires carrying the session version.

Use cases

  • User session design
  • Cross-node read optimization
  • Session consistency
