Pod

A Pod is Kubernetes' smallest schedulable unit, containing one or more containers sharing network/storage, always co-located on a node.

Purpose

Understand K8s' basic scheduling unit and manage container-group lifecycles.

Mechanism

Containers in a Pod share the network namespace (localhost interconnects) and storage volumes. Usually one container per Pod. Ephemeral and short-lived; Deployments manage replicas and rolling updates.

Use cases

  • K8s scheduling
  • Container grouping
  • Microservices
