Object-Oriented Programming

Object-oriented programming centers on objects (data + behavior), organizing code through encapsulation, inheritance, and polymorphism.

Purpose

Model real-world entities as objects to organize complex systems.

Mechanism

Classes define object templates; instantiation creates objects. Encapsulation hides internal state, inheritance reuses code, polymorphism unifies interfaces. Java/C#/Python are classic OOP. JS is prototype-based OOP. The trend favors composition over inheritance.

Use cases

  • Code organization
  • System modeling
  • Reuse-oriented design
