Monotonic Write Consistency
Monotonic writes guarantee that writes from the same session propagate to all replicas in the order they were issued, avoiding write reordering.
Purpose
To ensure a user operations take effect in the order issued, avoiding logic errors from later writes arriving first.
Mechanism
Writes within a session carry increasing sequence numbers; replicas apply them in sequence order. No such guarantee for concurrent cross-session writes. Combined with read-your-writes it provides complete session guarantees.
Use cases
- Session write ordering
- Operation serialization
- Session consistency
