Mixed Content
Mixed content is an HTTPS page referencing HTTP resources (script/img/iframe), which man-in-the-middle tampering can exploit to break page security.
Purpose
To eliminate HTTP resource references from HTTPS pages, ensuring the whole page is protected by encryption.
Mechanism
An HTTPS page containing http:// resources: active mixed content (script/css/iframe) is blocked by browsers; passive content (img/audio/video) may load but produces warnings. Defenses: HTTPS for all resources, Upgrade-Insecure-Requests.
Use cases
- HTTPS integrity
- Browser security warnings
- Migrating resources to HTTPS
