Lyra2
Lyra2 is a memory-hard password hashing function designed by Simplicio et al., filling and traversing a matrix over a sponge state; a PHC competition submission.
Purpose
A password hashing function with tunable memory and time parameters, resisting time-memory trade-offs and parallel attacks.
Mechanism
Builds a w×r matrix over the sponge state, with multiple passes of filling and revisiting (depending on the full previous row), then outputs. Parameters tune memory (matrix size), time (passes), and bandwidth.
Use cases
- Password hashing and storage
- PHC competition submission
- Memory-hard function
