Luffa

Luffa is a SHA-3 competition submission by Shibutani et al., a sponge hash based on three parallel message-injection permutations.

Purpose

A SHA-3 competition candidate using parallel lanes to raise throughput, suited to hardware.

Mechanism

The state has three parallel 256-bit lanes (w=256/512/1024); each lane runs 8 rounds of SubBytes (fixed S-box) + MixColumns + constant addition, with the message injected into each lane.

Use cases

  • SHA-3 competition submission
  • Parallel-lane hashing
  • Hardware implementation
