LaTeX

LaTeX is a TeX macro package developed by Leslie Lamport that typesets high-quality technical documents with commands such as \documentclass and \begin{document}.

Purpose

To typeset academic papers, books, and technical documentation with professional-grade formulas, bibliographies, and cross-references.

Mechanism

A document is split into a preamble (\documentclass, \usepackage, macro definitions) and a body (\begin{document}...\end{document}). Commands such as \section, \frac, and \cite drive the typesetting engine to produce PDF.

Use cases

  • Academic paper typesetting
  • Math formula rendering
  • Technical books
