JSON Stream

JSON stream parsing incrementally parses JSON as data arrives instead of buffering the whole document, supporting large JSON and real-time processing.

Purpose

To parse JSON incrementally in memory-constrained or real-time scenarios such as SSE event streams, large files, and chunked API responses.

Mechanism

A streaming parser keeps a syntax state machine updated character by character or chunk by chunk, emitting each complete value (object/array element) as soon as it is ready without waiting for the document to end. It is SAX-style or line-by-line NDJSON.

Use cases

  • Parsing large JSON files
  • SSE/NDJSON streams
  • Streaming API responses
