JSON-LD
JSON-LD (JSON for Linked Data) is a W3C standard that adds @context, @id, @type, and other keywords to JSON, turning it into an RDF knowledge-graph serialization.
Purpose
To turn JSON into Linked Data consumable by the semantic web and knowledge graphs, enabling interoperability across data sources.
Mechanism
@context maps JSON keys to RDF predicate IRIs and types; @id identifies a node IRI; @type identifies its type. The expansion algorithm converts JSON-LD into RDF triples, and the compaction algorithm reverses it.
Use cases
- Semantic web data publishing
- Knowledge graph serialization
- Schema.org structured data
