Hamsi

Hamsi is a SHA-3 competition submission by Küçük, a sponge hash based on a simple permutation with a lightweight structure.

Purpose

A SHA-3 competition candidate whose simple structure suits hardware implementation, though with a smaller security margin.

Mechanism

Sponge construction with a 256/512-bit state. Each round applies SubBytes (a message-dependent S-box), ShiftRows, MixColumns, and constant addition to the state. The round count is small.

Use cases

  • SHA-3 competition submission
  • Lightweight hashing
  • Hardware implementation
