Fugue

Fugue is IBM's SHA-3 competition submission, a wide-pipe hash based on AES round functions that blends sponge and pipe structures.

Purpose

A SHA-3 competition candidate that exploits AES hardware acceleration and provides a provable security bound.

Mechanism

State of 6×128 bits (or larger), using AES SubBytes/ShiftRows/MixColumns plus extra column mixing, with pipelined absorbing and squeezing. The design carries a provable security bound.

Use cases

  • SHA-3 competition submission
  • AES-based hash
  • Provable security
