Flame Graph
A flame graph visualizes sampled call stacks as flames: the x-axis width of a stack frame equals its time share, the y-axis equals call depth, revealing hotspots.
Purpose
Intuitively visualize CPU/memory hotspots and quickly locate bottleneck functions.
Mechanism
Bottom-up: the y-axis is call depth (main at the bottom), the x-axis sorts sibling functions alphabetically. Width = sample share = time spent. Wide flames mark hotspots. Search/zoom interactions. Created by Brendan Gregg.

- Performance analysis
- Hotspot identification
