ConfigMap
A ConfigMap is a K8s key-value resource for non-sensitive configuration, injected into Pods as environment variables or mounted volumes.
Purpose
Separate configuration from images so the same image runs across environments.
Mechanism
ConfigMaps store configuration key-value pairs. Pods consume them via envFrom environment injection or volume-mounted files. Updating a ConfigMap refreshes Pods (where configured). Sensitive data belongs in Secrets, not ConfigMaps.
Use cases
- Configuration management
- Environment separation
- K8s configuration
