BLAKE3 Tree Mode
The BLAKE3 tree mode is BLAKE3's default parallel hashing mode: input chunks are organized into a binary Merkle tree and compressed in parallel, supporting SIMD and multi-core.
Purpose
Delivers extremely high hashing throughput (GB/s level) on multi-core and SIMD platforms, and supports proofs for verifying subtrees.
Mechanism
Input is split into 1024-byte chunks, each independently compressed to 32 bytes (parallelizable), then merged layer by layer up the binary tree to the root, whose output is the digest. Each chunk compression uses a 7-round variant of the BLAKE2b round function.
Use cases
- Multi-core SIMD high-speed hashing
- Large-file verification
- Content-addressed storage
