BLAKE3 Keyed Mode
The BLAKE3 keyed mode is BLAKE3's MAC mode: a 32-byte key is injected into the initial state to produce a keyed message authentication code.
Purpose
Provides a high-speed MAC built on BLAKE3 — more efficient than HMAC-BLAKE2 (single pass) and supporting arbitrary-length output.
Mechanism
The initial state is derived from the key (IV XOR constant marking keyed mode); the rest is identical to tree mode. The output is a key-bound digest; forgery requires knowing the key.
Use cases
- High-speed message authentication
- Key derivation
- MAC replacing HMAC
