Base65536
Base65536 encodes binary data with 65536 Unicode characters (including supplementary planes), mapping every 16 bits to 1 character for a theoretical expansion of 1.0 — the densest possible scheme.
Purpose
It achieves near-zero expansion for binary-to-text conversion in Unicode channels, for extreme space optimization.
Mechanism
Every 2 bytes map directly to one Unicode code point drawn from a safe set, exploiting supplementary-plane characters to reach 16 bits per character. Surrogate-pair rendering compatibility must be considered.
Use cases
- Maximum-density binary encoding
- Transport over Unicode channels
- Experimental serialization
