Base32768

Base32768 encodes binary data with 32768 Unicode BMP characters, mapping every 15 bits to 1 character for an expansion of about 1.067 — one of the densest Unicode encodings available.

Purpose

It represents binary data with the lowest overhead in Unicode-capable channels, suited to large payloads.

Mechanism

The input bit stream is split into 15-bit groups, each mapped to one of 32768 safe BMP characters (excluding the surrogate range, control blocks, and noncharacters), achieving 15 bits per character.

Use cases

  • Large binary transfers over Unicode channels
  • High-density data encoding
  • Cross-platform serialization
