Base2048 Variant

Base2048 variants encode binary data using 2048 Unicode characters, mapping every 11 bits to 1 character for an expansion of about 1.091 — far below Base64.

Purpose

They represent binary data in Unicode channels with very low overhead, suited to high-bandwidth textual transport.

Mechanism

The input bit stream is split into 11-bit groups, each mapped to one of 2048 safe Unicode characters (avoiding control characters, surrogate pairs, and combining characters). Variants may adjust the character range.

Use cases

  • Binary transport over Unicode channels
  • High-density data serialization
  • Cross-platform text exchange
