Base128
Base128 maps binary data onto 128 ASCII characters, carrying 7 bits of payload per byte for an expansion of about 8/7.
Purpose
It transmits binary data over ASCII-safe channels more compactly than Base64.
Mechanism
The input bit stream is split into 7-bit groups, each mapped to one printable character in the ASCII 33-127 range; a final short group is zero-padded.
Use cases
- Textual transport of binary protocols
- High-density data serialization
- Embedded communication links
