BASE Property

BASE is the NoSQL model relaxing ACID: basically available, soft state, eventually consistent — prioritizing availability and scalability.

Purpose

To understand the consistency trade-offs of NoSQL systems and design highly available distributed storage.

Mechanism

Basically Available (usable despite partial failures), Soft State (state need not be instantly consistent), Eventually Consistent (converges once updates stop). Achieved through asynchronous replication, anti-entropy, and read repair.

Use cases

  • NoSQL selection
  • Distributed storage design
  • CAP trade-offs
