Argon2d
Argon2d is the data-dependent addressing variant of Argon2: memory access indices depend on the previous block's output, giving the strongest time-memory trade-off resistance.
Purpose
Provides Argon2's strongest time-memory trade-off resistance in environments without side-channel threats, suited to local password hashing.
Mechanism
During matrix filling, reference indices are determined by the low 128 bits of the previous block's output, so the access pattern is password-dependent. It has optimal TMTO resistance but may leak the memory access pattern.
Use cases
- Local password hashing
- High TMTO resistance
- Argon2 performance variant
