Adaptive Chosen-Plaintext
An adaptive chosen-plaintext attack allows the adversary to keep querying the encryption oracle even after seeing the challenge ciphertext (apart from the challenge plaintexts), making it the online form of IND-CPA.
Purpose
It captures the attacker’s ability to adapt strategy during the encryption game and is the default security model for public-key encryption.
Mechanism
The adversary first queries E_K(·) at will; after receiving the challenge C* = E_K(P_b) it may keep querying (but never P0 or P1) and finally outputs a guess of b. IND-CPA is exactly this model.
Use cases
- Public-key encryption security definitions
- Symmetric mode-of-operation evaluation
- Online attack modeling
