ACID Property
ACID is the four guarantees of transactions: atomicity, consistency, isolation, and durability, ensuring reliable transaction processing.
Purpose
To understand the cornerstone of relational database transaction correctness and evaluate a system data-consistency guarantees under failures.
Mechanism
Atomicity: all or nothing; consistency: constraints are never violated; isolation: concurrent transactions do not interfere; durability: once committed, data survives crashes. Implemented with WAL + locks + MVCC.
Use cases
- Transaction design
- Database selection
- Failure recovery assessment
